Try these famous hands
- The 29 hand: three fives and the jack of the starter's suit, with the fourth five cut. It's the highest possible score.
- 4-4-5-5-6: a double double run, 24 points.
- 7-7-8-8-9: another double double run, also 24.
- Four threes and a nine: 24, all from fifteens and pairs.
- 2-4-6-8 and a king: nothing at all. Players call it a “nineteen”.
How the calculator counts
It checks every combination of the five cards for these, in this order:
- Fifteens: every group of two or more cards adding to 15, two points each. Face cards count ten.
- Pairs: every pair of the same rank, two points each. Three of a kind is three pairs (6), four of a kind is six pairs (12).
- Runs: the longest sequences of three or more ranks, one point per card. A duplicate rank inside a run makes two runs (a double run).
- Flush: four points if all four hand cards share a suit, five if the starter matches too. In the crib, only a five-card flush counts.
- Nobs: one point for the jack of the starter's suit in the hand.
